Sound Transit operates the Sounder Commuter Rail, a commuter rail service between Everett and Seattle, and between Seattle and Tacoma. There are currently 7 peak-direction and 2 reverse-commute round-trips daily between Tacoma and Seattle and 4 peak-direction round trips between Everett and Seattle. Sound Transit will eventually run up to 18 daily round-trips from Tacoma once all trackwork is completed by BNSF Railway. They also plan on extending service to South Tacoma and Lakewood by 2012. |

May 02 2012 - Why the railroad doesn't have to listen to the city
I received several calls and emails yesterday after a story I wrote on tree cutting rules was published. The story talked about why Everett homeowners aren't allowed to cut or even prune trees on their own property, if that property happens to be on a steep slope or near a stream or wetland. |

Train service between Seattle and Vancouver, B.C., has been disrupted after a mudslide south of Everett that blocked the tracks. Amtrak Cascades said service would be disrupted until Saturday and that alternate transportation would be provided in the meantime. EVERETT, Wash. (AP) — Amtrak and Sound Transit trains won't travel to Everett until Friday morning as a safety precaution, following two mudslides that hit the railroad tracks early Wednesday in the city. Burlington Northern Santa Fe spokesman Gus Melonas (mel-OWN'-us) says a slide about 1:30 a.m. covered 30 feet of track about 5 feet deep in mud, rocks and trees. |

EVERETT -- A woman was injured Monday night when she was hit by a slow-moving train in north Everett. The woman, whose age was not immediately available, was discovered beneath the lead locomotive near the U.S. 2 trestle, officials said. The train was moving about 5 mph. |
