Investigators with the Montana Highway Patrol says two Libby area residents avoided injury after their 1991 Jeep Cherokee got stuck between train tracks and a steep rock embankment. Sergeant Duane Bowers says the two exited the vehicle to figure out what to do, and not long after that a BNSF train came around the corner and struck the vehicle. |

SCDOT wants to replace 2 bridges with 1 on I-85

A head-on collision on Highway 43 south of Avenue 108 near Alpaugh caused a Jeep Cherokee with three children to become stuck on the train tracks and brought a halt to train traffic, said Claudia Whitendale, a Tulare County Fire Department spokeswoman. |

Trail part of federal study to become historic route
Local historians and supporters of the preservation of the Cherokee Trail received good news late last month. The National Park Service has announced a new feasibility study to evaluate the feasibility and suitability of adding historic routes to several existing trails, including the addition of the Cherokee Trail to the California National Historic Trail. |
