Mile Marker: Columbus Depot's Clock
Columbus, south of Deming, owes its existence to the El Paso & Southwestern Railroad, which transported copper ore from Douglas, Ariz. to smelters in El Paso in the late 1800s. The town was a coaling and water station for trains and a place where people could ship cattle and receive merchandise. The depot was perhaps the busiest building in town. |
