Berea Fire Fighters Mourning Loss of Their Own
The Berea Fire Department and Mount Vernon Fire Department lost one of their own Friday morning. 29-year-old Christopher Kerns was killed after his 2008 Chevy pickup truck collided with a CSX Freight Train just outside Mount Vernon. Douglas Kerns used to be a runner. The Chatsworth resident would train and participate in 5K races, half marathons and other competitive running events. However, around three years ago, he suffered a foot injury that significantly reduced the amount of time he could spend on his former passion. But that’s OK.
