June 12 2011 - Rail service returns to Chaffee Crossing in Ark. Rail service has returned to Chaffee Crossing in western Arkansas for the first time in 10 years. The Southwest Times Record reports Fort Smith Railroad Co. sent 12 empty hopper cars last week to Chaffee Crossing. Ivy Owen, the executive director of the Fort Chaffee Redevelopment Authority, says it’s another step toward developing the 7,000-acre idled military property. |
